Amy Thong

I'm a Texan originally from Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A. Before I was 25, I made a list of all the things I wanted to do such as: 2. Learn to speak Mandarin Chinese, 6. Travel to southeast Asia 9. Teach someone how to read, 11. Read an Isabel Allende book in Spanish; to name just a few. Since then, I've been all over southeast Asia, never started the Allende novel, but instead taught some children how to read.

Teaching has been a meaningful experience for me filled with important opportunities to contribute. In teaching, I've been challenged to create an environment that will be engaging and accessible for a young person first experiencing English as a foreign language. We have an obligation as their teachers to guide them through those un-confident times and enlighten them with our experience. And most importantly, we need to remind them that their potential is the driving force in their lives.

As a director, I guide with a similar philosophy. Find people with not only credentials, but with the potential to be giving teachers. I seek smart people who have an interest in learning, understanding Chinese culture, and an ability to adapt to the challenge that comes with teaching English in a foreign environment. These kinds of richly diverse and independent people make it to China every day from all over the world. And below are just some of the few that I'm lucky enough to have encountered.

We hope you enjoy getting to know us.
